Well, I must say, dreams sure do come true. I have held the dream of being a full time artist with my own studio for many years now. I held the vision, announced my intentions to the universe and it has finally manifested.
I have my OWN studio.
And i QUIT my full time job to be a full time ARTIST.
There are days when I still have to pinch myself to believe I'm actually living the life I have always dreamed of. It's fan-fucking-tastic.
Exactly one month from quitting my job, the garage renovation started. I finally have a
working studio where the journey of me becoming the artist I have always dreamed of becoming is happening.
It is happening right now.
My focus these days has become less painting, and more of fibre art. Everything from processing and dying raw fibre, carding, spinning, weaving, and rug hooking with primitive hooks and felted wool.
Life could not be better right now.
Next up I'll update you on the work that's been happening these last few months.
Life couldn't be more exciting for me these days.
Until next time...
let the renovations begin
I almost... almost... like so close to renting a studio space just down the street from it. It was 450 square feet of absolute gorgeous space, two skylights, a garage door with windows (and fully opened), with a separate door entrance (see image below).
When I got home and told my husband about the additional monthly expense, it was more than enough to get the fire going on renovating our own garage into a workable studio for myself. This has been the plan all along but he hasn't been very helpful with actually getting it going.
So far we managed to clean out most of the junk in the garage - next move is to sort through and clear out all the thousands of pieces of tools most of which were inherited. A big job in itself.
Then we can properly take some measurements so we can shop around for doors and windows.
Once the windows are done then we can deal with the insulation and drywall and fix the concrete floor.
I want to be able to have a working studio by the new year. And it will be a gazillion times better than the space above because it will be MINE. ALL. MINE. This is my intention. So let it be done!
We're off to the knitters' fair, in Kitchener this Saturday.
I'm very excited about going. I'm really hoping to buy some more raw fleece. A girl can never have too much fleece!
